Teaching Pulling or Pushing First

I just created a rafting discussion board here https://www.submarinehole.com/. If you have some time would you mind creating an account and commenting on the first post about whitewater and swiftwater rescue? This is a discussion I’m really interested in and I think this board is a good way to get people’s thoughts?

It’s quite interesting. I obviously am a huge component of defensive rowing, but I emphasize defensive pivoting 80% more than pulling.

The light boats I generally teach from lend themselves nicely to quick reactions with a solid “facing danger” pivot.

I also really emphasize increasing angles, students believe their sterns are 70-80 degrees defensively to the current but they’re generally 50-60 degrees.
